Removal of 17α-ethinylestradiol and total phosphorus in a sequencing batch reactor under two different sludge retention-time conditions

چکیده

Sewage treatment systems can prevent the direct discharge of endocrine disruptors, such as 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2), into environment. Treatment capable promoting total phosphorus (TP) removal, sequencing batch reactors (SBRs), are promising in this regard. Two lab-scale SBRs with different sludge retention times (SRTs) were assessed for their EE2 and TP removal rates. Anaerobic/aerobic/anoxic phases cycles 6 h used to treat sewage containing at a concentration 5 μg L-1. The rates chemical oxygen demand approximately 80% both SBRs. Partial nitrification was observed Initially, concentrations above 1.0 L-1 treated measured. These smaller SBR 1, which lower SRTs; removed by sorption. After 56th cycle, below 0.1 SBRs, indicating that its may have occurred biodegradation due acclimation process. Therefore, seem play an important role SBRs.

Effect of influent nutrient ratios and hydraulic retention time (HRT) on simultaneous phosphorus and nitrogen removal in two-sludge sequencing batch reactor

A laboratory-scale anaerobic-anoxic/nitrification sequencing batch reactor (A2N-SBR) fed with domestic wastewater was operated to examine the effect of varying ratios of influent COD/P, COD/TN and TN/P on the nutrient removal. With the increased COD/P, the phosphorus removals exhibited an upward trend. The influent TN/P ratios had a positive linear correlation with the phosphorus removal effici...

Assessment of nitrogen and phosphorus removal in an intermittently aerated sequencing batch reactor (IASBR) and a sequencing batch reactor (SBR).

Biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal was investigated in an intermittently aerated sequencing batch reactor (IASBR) and a sequencing batch reactor (SBR). The removal efficiencies of ammonium-nitrogen (NH4(+)-N) were 100% in both reactors in steady operation state. The total nitrogen (TN) removal efficiencies were 90.4% in the IASBR and 79.3% in the SBR, while the total phosphorus (TP) rem...

Effects of Solid Retention Time (SRT) on Sludge Characteristics in Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal (EBPR) Reactor

This study investigated the effects of solid retention time (SRT) on sludge characteristics and operational performance in enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) reactor. The results showed that the reactor operated at SRT of / = 8.3 d could achieve phosphate removal efficiency > 90 % and SVI < 100 mL g–1. In comparison, increasing SRT to / = 16.6 d led to a decrease of phosphate removal...

Aerobic Sludge Granulation in a Full-Scale Sequencing Batch Reactor

Aerobic granulation of activated sludge was successfully achieved in a full-scale sequencing batch reactor (SBR) with 50,000 m(3) d(-1) for treating a town's wastewater. After operation for 337 days, in this full-scale SBR, aerobic granules with an average SVI30 of 47.1 mL g(-1), diameter of 0.5 mm, and settling velocity of 42 m h(-1) were obtained. Compared to an anaerobic/oxic plug flow (A/O)...

Characteristics of anoxic phosphorus removal in sequence batch reactor.

The characteristics of anaerobic phosphorus release and anoxic phosphorus uptake were investigated in sequencing batch reactors using denitrifying phosphorus removing bacteria (DPB) sludge. The lab-scale experiments were accomplished under conditions of various nitrite concentrations (5.5, 9.5, and 15 mg/L) and mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) (1844, 3231, and 6730 mg/L). The results obtain...
